FISH
Kvikmyndasýning

You are never faced as blatantly with the fact that some people do things substantially different from the ones you do as when curled up in a fetal posture for seven hours, scared to open your eyes and breathing as lightly as possible to prevent your body from moving the slightest millimeter.

In this self indulgent and vulnerable situation a frightening thought kicks in; if you had an option, you would choose death over this*.

Realities
The Things People Do

While all this is overwhelming your existence the captain and his twenty year old daughter are proceeding with their daily routine out on the deck. They are not only moving and breathing normally but also keeping up a production line of capturing and euthanising fish. At this moment those two appear to you as the bravest heroes, which they undoubtedly are. They don’t ask about weather, the weather doesn’t consult the ocean and the ocean didn’t negotiate the currents. Today it just so happened that those forces are all in opposition to each other. Rather inconvenient for you, or what the captain refers to as “slight wobble”**.

Emotionally tasty.

Since then, eating fish is an almost ceremonial activity. And since then, doing my daily routine feels oh so satisfying***.
